I make room for the parts of you that have had to adapt.
I’m Priya Puliyampet, LMHC. I provide virtual psychotherapy for adults across New York who feel misunderstood, shut down, or tired of hiding what they need.

When adapting starts to feel safer
I work with the places where being attentive to everyone else can make it hard to hear yourself.
- “I’m always watching for what other people want.”
- “It can feel easier to hide what I need.”
- “I feel misunderstood, then I shut down.”
I help people who feel like they do not fit in—especially across culture, identity, family, and religion—build more satisfying relationships with themselves and others.
When I live with many identities, I can become very good at seeing the seams between them. I may adapt to avoid rejection, push my needs beneath the surface, or find it difficult to admit what I want. I make space to notice those patterns without criticizing you for having them.
Hey, I’m Priya
Priya Puliyampet, LMHC · Licensed Mental Health Counselor, New York State
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor licensed in New York State, providing virtual and online psychotherapy for adults.
My work is relational, feminist, and anti-oppressive. I pay attention to how the relationships that have shaped you can affect the way you see yourself and others—and to what becomes possible when those patterns can be noticed in therapy.
I have a particular interest in identity, relationships, culture, LGBTQ+ concerns, and first- and second-generation experiences.
How I work
I work primarily from a relational psychodynamic perspective. I explore relational patterns and the ways they may affect your view of yourself and others.
I also draw from Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I use these approaches to stay with emotions that may feel overwhelming and to support emotional regulation when it is hard to find on your own.
If you begin worrying about what I think, hiding what you need, or shutting down in therapy, I make room to talk about that, too.
- Psychodynamic therapy
- I explore patterns that can be difficult to see from the inside.
- Relational therapy
- I pay attention to what happens in therapy and in your other relationships.
- AEDP
- I make room to deepen and stay with emotion rather than moving away from it.
- DBT
- I offer tools for regulating emotions when they feel overwhelming.
Therapy can be a relational sandbox: a place to risk honesty, talk about what happens between client and therapist, and practice asking for what is needed.
I see therapy as a place where you can bring the parts of your experience that have felt difficult to say out loud.
How I begin
I begin with what feels most pressing, then let the work deepen over time.
In initial sessions, I define the difficulties you are facing with you, develop a collaborative treatment plan, and begin addressing what feels most present.
As therapy develops, I explore patterns that may be harder to see—such as adapting to others, shutting down, or hiding your needs. Some parts of the work can change in the first months; other parts unfold with time.
