Relationships therapy for the patterns that keep repeating
I work with adults who want help understanding what happens in close relationships. We can look at conflict, distance, worry, and the moments when you start to lose your footing with someone important.
What people bring me
People may come in after the same arguments keep happening or after closeness starts to feel heavy. Some feel anxious about being rejected, while others pull away before they can be hurt. Family relationships can carry old roles that are hard to shake. Even when someone cares deeply, they may not know how to say what they need without shutting down or exploding.
- I keep having the same fight over and over.
- I pull away when things start to feel close.
- I want connection, but I don’t know how to ask for it.
- I end up feeling blamed, unseen, or too much.
We can slow down the pattern while it is happening.
How I work with it
I listen for the ways people protect themselves in relationships, whether that means people-pleasing, shutting down, testing, or coming in strong. We can explore those patterns with care, including what they may be guarding against. In couples or family-related work, I pay attention to how each person affects the other, not just to one person’s reactions. The room becomes a place to notice what is hard to say elsewhere and how it lands when it is said here.
- Psychodynamic
- We explore how earlier relationships shaped the way you expect closeness to feel. That can include familiar fears about being criticized, left, or misunderstood.
- Relational
- We look at what happens between us as part of the work, not as a distraction from it. That can make relationship patterns easier to see in real time.
- AEDP
- I may help you stay with the feelings that come up in relationship pain instead of moving away from them. That can include moments of sadness, anger, longing, or relief.
- DBT
- When emotions feel like they take over the whole conversation, I can help you slow the pace and stay clearer. That can make it easier to talk without losing yourself.
What the first sessions look like
The first sessions focus on the relationship patterns that feel most painful right now and the situations where they show up. We talk about what happens with partners, family, friends, or coworkers, and you do not need to have the whole story organized first.
I offer a free 15-minute consultation. I usually reply within 2 business days.
